Saltoro Kangri Mountaineering Expedition

Climbing History of Saltoro Kangri:
Early Exploration:
Saltoro Kangri, initially known as "Peak 36," attracted attention during 1911-12 reconnaissance by Fanny Bullock Workman. However, conquering it remained elusive for decades.
British Attempt (1935):
In 1935, a British expedition led by James Waller and John Hunt aimed to conquer Saltoro Kangri via the Likah Glacier. Adverse weather conditions and inaccurate altitude estimates forced a retreat at 24,500 feet.
Eric Shipton's Expedition:
Eric Shipton's expedition in the 1950s unintentionally marked the start of the Siachen conflict, sparking or political disputes in the region.
Japanese-Pakistani Ascent (1962):
A historic moment occurred in July 1962, when a joint Japanese-Pakistani expedition led by T. Shidei, successfully summited Saltoro Kangri via the challenging S.E. ridge route.
Indian Army Success (1981):
In 1981, Colonel Narendra Kumar led an Indian Army expedition that achieved another successful ascent of Saltoro Kangri.
